The Thankful Turkey, 2012
In celebration of this Thanksgiving, Brianna Winbush got the idea to create a short story that focused on gratitude and cultural diversity, entitled "The Thankful Turkey and Her Friends." Each page of the story was delightfully illustrated by one of the Eco Girls, so the girls could tell the story through their own eyes. This is our first book with a cover collectively designed by the Eco Girls.

The ECO Girls End of Year Skit, 2012
By Alyx Cadotte
ECO Girls concluded our year of programming in May with a special event. Both the Roots and Shoots gathered at the Ann Arbor YMCA to produce and present a skit for their parents. Two of the Shoots developed the idea for the drama during our Earth Day event, and all of the girls were looking forward to it. The scenario for the skit was a factory farm on which the farm animals described their negative circumstances and decided to escape for a better life.
Putting the skit together was a lot of fun. We had different teams working that the Eco Girls rotated among: costume design, writing, directing, and stage props. Everyone seemed to enjoy getting a chance to do a little bit of everything. Costume design in particular brought out their creativity, and we had some really cute farm animals!
For the last hour of the event, parents came back, bringing siblings and friends. Before the show, they had the chance to admire a presentation board of the year’s events and themes and some of the artwork made by the Eco Girls on Earth Day. Everyone was wowed by the Eco G girls’ presentation of their skit. We wrapped up with a potluck and the chance to share a favorite event from the year.
We have had a really great first year and want to thank all the volunteers, parents and especially the Eco Girls for making it all possible!
